In the face of a strategic project shared with our customer, our company contributes to investing in all the necessary structure for the best productivity.

An example: for an our important customer in the automotive sector, we invested in a robotic island with two presses, five robots and a dedicated washing. We have allocated a space of our production department specifically for this project.

Why did we do it?
To offer an excellent service, to guarantee the best quality parameters of the industry and to prove concretely what building business partnership relationships means for us.

NTS does not promote itself only as specialist for the realization of plastic parts, but also as primary interlocutor of its customers to provide complete solutions where the plastic component is included in a more complex product.

Inside the plastic part, in fact, there can be for example an electronic component or it is possible to insert cables.

NTS puts in play all its professionalism (the one of its Italian plant and the one of low cost countries plants) to offer to the customer an integrated solution in terms of innovation and competitiveness.

This solution gets concrete in the production of the final product but starts from the co-design study with the customer of the solution itself, prototyping, pre-series, industrialization and mass production.

The customer often needs to find in NTS a supplier able to create a complete supply chain. It is not rare that customers ask us for support to organize a complete supply processes going till the delivery of the final part, packed and tested, directly to our customer’s final customer.

To ensure such an accurate service, we take advantage of an enterprise network composed of special partner and complementary companies generating a sound and effective industrial solution: exactly as an Industrial Solution Provider is expected to be.

FAQ 11 – Why do we use FEM mouldflow simulation?

In NTS we accompany the customer right from the start of the development of a product process.

We use software tools for process simulation such as FEM moldflow, allowing us to anticipate possible problems and criticalities before the mould is set up for production.

This approach allows to reduce, anticipating them, all the non-conformity situations of the final product.

Structural FEM analysis (Finite Element Method) permits to calculate the structural performance of a system. These analysis are very important in case you need to check complex structures or to study, from an engineering point of view, the performances of mechanical systems and machineries.

We have already talked many times about Metal Replacement.

It is one of the high added value services provided by NTS to the customers willing to innovate their product.
An exclusive service of consultancy and technical support (integrated, if necessary also by specific know-how of third parties, our partners) starting from the choice of the material to the re-design of the part geometry together with the customer, from prototyping till the construction of the mould and the moulding of the pieces as mass production.

In this video-pill we reveal you how Metal Replacement (that starts from a technical-economic feasibility analysis till the delivery of the final product, moulded and assembled) in NTS is a very appreciated and requested service.

FAQ 9 – What is vacuum technology?

Mattia Pozzato, NTS Project Manager, tells us about vacuum technology managed by NTS.

Why is vacuum technology used in NTS?

In NTS siamo in grado di gestire lo stampaggio a iniezione termoindurente con l’aiuto del vuoto in cavità. Ciò comporta miglioramento del processo produttivo ed un aumento della qualità del prodotto.

In NTS we are able to manage injection moulding of thermoset material with vacuum inside the cavity. This allows an improvement of the production process and an increase of the quality of the product.
Through vacuum technology, we eliminate possible porosities of the piece and improve the final aesthetic aspect.
This is only one of the technological solutions we implement to reach a quality without any compromise.

Thermoset material can be used safely even in explosive environments.

The example is a high-protection box used in electromechanical field and installed in an ATEX environment, with a heavy impact: it is a protection of an electromechanical switch that must withstand strong explosive impacts. Thermoset material perfectly meets this kind of requirement as well.

The box has very significant thicknesses, where other materials alternative to metals would present critical issues; thermoset material, on the other hand, proves to be very suitable.

The thermoset composite used in this application has electrical conductivity properties to satisfy the requirement of electricity dissipation; there are co-moulded inserts with different features: fixing, gas discharge (a porous septum is co-moulded), electrical contact.

There are a lot of successful situations where we used our experience with thermoset materials.

It depends on the project and on the functional features of the plastic component. As always, a process of active listening to the customer’s requirements is fundamental. We are more and more advocates of a 360° consultancy approach and not only as it concerns mould and moulding: for this reason, every time we are given the chance, we try to give our customers our best technical suggestions, generated by our know-how and experience. We often deal with the complete customer’s project and we respect with professionality the required confidentiality by signing NDA for specific projects.

Listening and 360° consultancy with the customers, means listening and understanding the goals of the project and involving the most expert people for each specific aspect, even joining some of our business partners with whom we have professional and structured high level relationships.

This is our will:  to offer to our customers the most satisfying performance in terms of technical solution, economical and productive sustainability, in full quality and within the agreed timeframe.

Thermoset is successfully used in different applications, in particular where specific mechanical and thermal features are needed.

It is used, for instance, in the electrical and electromechanical field: let’s think of electrical motors where BMC is over-moulded onto magnets and windings of rotors and stators.

Thermoset proved to be very performing even in a lot of metal replacement cases, i.e. when a metal component, for example in die-casting, is replaced by a thermoset one.

In this specific branch, we have a certain experience: for example we have replaced metal in some components of electrical motors, cogged housings, mechanic-textile supports and valve bodies. We work with the customer and support him in technical choices of materials, reaching quality goals with more and more sustainable costs,  keeping a constant high level of safety for all the components.

An interesting example of application of thermoset material is when we have been asked to realise a second level underwater snorkel. Here, we used SMC material, a material made with carbon fibre (at 45%).

There are top level applications where the requirements of the customers are very ambitious: it is right here that we manage to fit in with success and enthusiasm.

FAQ 5 – Can thermoset material be coloured?

Even thermoset material can be colouredBMC, material reinforced with glass fibre, appears as a homogenous mass (like modelling clay, to be clear) that, during the chemical composition of the material, can be added with specific colourants that do not change its stability and mechanical properties.

Thermoset material can be used, therefore, to satisfy different requirements, also aesthetic ones: let’s think, for example, of the necessary glossy surface required for the  lights of cars/motorbikes.

Thermosetting composites have peculiar features, in particular:

  • High resistances to mechanical stresses
  • Dimensional stability at high temperatures for a long time
  • Design flexibility
  • Metal Replacement
  • Surface quality
  • Chemical resistance

FAQ 4 – Can thermoset material be recycled?

Yes, it can. Even if in a different way from the simpler thermoplastic, that only requires a temperature increase to get melted and then moulded again.

As it concerns thermoset material, instead, a little more energy is required: heat is not enough but it also takes energy to activate a process of pulverisation from which it is possible to obtain the dust that can be used in the new material production.

In the foot print principle for the sake of the planet, we need to know however that this kind of recycling requires further energy (cost) to the environment to be realised. Therefore we need to train to focus on the very first way to recycle with no cost: reuse. By definition our technical components no matter if in thermoset or thermoplastic material, are first of all, reusable for an infinite number of times. We are talking, in fact, about products with a very long life cycle: also about 40 years. That said, waste and scrap pieces of the processes (both in thermoplastic and thermoset) are constantly decreasing and what remains is anyway technically recyclable at 100%. Real sustainability consists in evaluating costs and energy necessary to turn the scraps into reusable material or proceed with alternative waste.
